Our Story

Shuly's bakery is dedicated to providing delicious and allergy safe and baked goods. Our products range from, cakes, cupcakes, breads, bars, and many other treats. Our business was sparked by a personal challenge. All three of our daughters have life threatening food allergies. Our oldest is allergic to sesame, peanuts, and tree nuts, our middle daughter is allergic to tree nuts and peanuts, and our youngest, who is not allergic to any nuts, is allergic to dairy and eggs. Throughout their young lives, I have learned to bake many mainstream treats, always making sure that they were getting the yummiest and most visually appealing treats compared to their friends' allergen laden baked goods. People who attended our birthday parties would always ask where I got the fabulous cake or cupcakes, never suspecting that they were free of peanuts, tree nuts, dairy and eggs. At these parties, it was always suggested to me that I make my products available to other children who suffer from food allergies but still want fantastic custom birthday cakes. So finally I decided to do just that, and thus Shuly's bakery was born. Since I began, I have even made made some cakes for people who's children don't have food allergies, but just loved my cakes.

As my children's allergy are very severe, and they are contact reactive, it is imperative that all ingredients are thoroughly investigated for the possibility of cross contamination to the afore mentioned allergens. I personally call each manufacturer of each ingredient that I put in my products. And only when I get confirmation from a higher up in the company that no cross contamination occurs, do I feel comfortable baking with their products. This means that if a product is made on the same equipment with the allergens (even if it is thoroughly washed in between uses) I will not use it in my product. If an ingredient is made in the same facility with the allergens, but on dedicated equipment, I go over in great detail how near the allergens are produced to the safe ingredients before I determine whether or not I will use them in my products. This is the level of safety I need for my own kids. I will provide detailed ingredient lists for all baked goods as well as brand names. If you would like further information and I have it, I will be happy to provide it. I recheck companies periodically as their safety procedure sometimes change. Even with all of the research I do, and the minimized likelihood of cross contamination, it is ultimately the consumers responsibility to make the final decision as to whether or not our products are safe for your consumption. Our facility is peanut and tree nut free. We can make vegan, dairy and egg free as well as gluten/wheat free and soy free products upon request, however, please understand that our facility is not free of these allergens. The utmost care will be taken to prevent cross contamination of these allergens in your products. I would be happy to discuss specifics of any product at any time.
